Mangave meet the needs of the modern gardener. These large succulent-esque hybrids retain the excellent heat and drought tolerance of their Agave background, while adding fast growing, tropical attributes from their Manfreda parentage. They can be grown solitary, in the landscape, or in mixed or mono decorative containers. Their tolerance of a wide variety of moisture conditions allows them to be mixed with succulents, annuals, and tropicals. Mangave are perennial in southern zones, with the option of being grown as an annual in northern zones or overwintered as a houseplant.

Sun-Activated

Not only will Mangave effortlessly handle sun and heat, but their spectacular colors are best brought out in bright, sunny areas. Without the requisite light, the brilliant spotting and colors will diminish. Returning a Mangave to a sun-soaked area will see it soon return to its best form.

Water-Wise

We think of succulents as drought tolerant, but really, they are water sensitive. Too much water and they rot away, too little and they don't grow. Enter Mangave. This super-sized succulent is more water tolerant and grows much quicker because of it. Happy with your Mangave at the size it is? Water it sparingly like a normal succulent to slow it down.

Flexible Use

These succulents adapt and thrive in a wide variety of growing environments, including traditional landscape planting, mixed and mono containers, hanging baskets, and as a high light indoor houseplant. Aesthetically, they can steal the show when planted alone, but play well with other succulents and annuals to be used in mixed containers.

Easy to Handle

Growers will appreciate the reduced number and rigidity of spines compared to traditional Agave. Soft spines make them easier to handle in production and soft leaves easier to ship or move about the nursery. When grown with more water, growers will be rewarded with a faster growth rate that halves the finish time of Agave.

ART & SOL™ 'Aztec King' Mangave

Large Mangave. Wide, broad silvery green leaves with burgundy flecks in full sun. Arching, slightly scalloped leaves. Upright habit. Needs plenty of room to grow to maximum potential.

Narrow, flat lime green leaves that form an arching habit. Each leaf blade has light blush red spotting with a distinct blush toward the tips of the leaves. This is very easy to handle due to its soft, flexible leaves.

Very thick, silvery blue-green leaves are generously covered with restrained dark spotting. The margins curl upward to show off its marginal teeth. Its upright habit makes it look equally cool from a side view as it does from the top.

Smokey purple leaves are broad with tiny white spines. ‘Lavender Lady' has a well-rounded, geometric form capable of thrilling in a decorative or mixed container, or standing alone as a landscape specimen.

Surreal moonlit appearance. 1" wide silvery blue-green leaves with dark purple spots. More dramatic spots under UV light. Long, horizontal leaves form a low, wide, and spiky habit. Tiny, soft spines. Less lethal than Agave varieties.

The dark color of ‘Night Owl' comes from its heavy dark spotting. The wide leaves gently undulate to show off its marginal spines. Plant in full sun for best color.

Blue-green leaves with reddish-purple spotting. Appears purple when viewed from a distance. Best coloration in full sun, greener with less UV exposure. Upward-folding margins with yellow, orange, and cinnamon spines. Cinnamon terminal spine. Neat rosette formation.

Light green with thick waxy coating, glowing silver appearance. Light blue-purple spotting underneath coating. Thick, arching leaves with defined marginal teeth.

This smaller sized succulent has thick, flat leaves that are almost completely covered with dark red spots for eye-catching appeal. The leaves form an upright, refined rosette.

The long and pronounced spines are presented in a rainbow of colors, ranging from cinnamon brown to yellow to orange. Blue green leaves show off the array of colors even more, with faint spotting giving the thick leaves some character.
