Growing Temperature:

58-60° F nights until roots are firmly set

Fertility:

After new leaves emerge use a water-soluble fertilizer, solutions of 50-100 ppm at each or every other watering. For Controlled Release or Slow Release Fertilizer, see your preferred supplier for recommended rates for incorporation or top dressing, as it varies by fertilizer.

Vernalization:

If grown from a fresh plug, 5-8 weeks of cold are required for flowering.

Pests & Diseases:

Black vine weevil damage, foliar nematode.

Viruses, leaf spots (Colletotrichum, Alternaria), anthracnose.

Potting & Timing:

Small plugs are best planted in mid to late summer of the year prior to sales. Large vernalized plugs can be planted in late winter or early spring.

Moisture:

Medium moisture levels. Water well after planting and increase watering as the foliage emerges.

Planting Level:

Place crown just below soil surface.

Lighting:

Provide light shade during the summer months.
Bergenia are day neutral.
