Fertility:

Light to moderate feed rates of 50-100 ppm N at each watering are recommended.

For Controlled Release or Slow Release Fertilizer, see your preferred supplier for recommended rates for incorporation or top dressing, as it varies by fertilizer.

Vernalization:

Plugs planted in the summer should be vernalized after bulking for 8-10 weeks at temperatures below 45° F.
Bare root plants will arrive vernalized.

Pests & Diseases:

Aphids, caterpillars, mealybugs, spider mites and whiteflies. Root and crown rot

Potting & Timing:

Plant small plugs in late summer for proper bulking prior to vernalization.
Bare root is the best choice for spring planted crops.

Moisture:

Moderate moisture

Planting Level:

Crown at soil line or top of plug level with soil line.

PGRs/Pinching:

Piccolo or Bonzi (paclobutrazol) at 30 ppm, Sumagic (uniconazole) at 5 ppm or Topflor (flurprimidol) at 45 ppm. Multiple applications at 7 day intervals may be required especially in the south.
