Fertility:
While low doses of fertilizer can be helpful in bulking in the early growth stages, they've been shown to have a distorting effect on tissue color, as well as pitcher size and shape.
Vernalization:
Required for flowering, 6-8 weeks below 40° F.
Pests & Diseases:
Sarracenia, especially the newly emerging pitchers, may attract aphids. Insecticides can be applied to eradicate aphids, but lower rates are recommended with minimal surfactants/adjuvants. Spraying on a cloudy day will ensure plants do not burn.
Potting & Timing:
Finished roots of plugs will not wrap at the base of the plug. Since they naturally grow in standing water of bogs, they form a loose fibrous root system with little to no root hairs. This can make them difficult to handle, which is why we grow them in growcoon plugs.
Moisture:
For potting media use 100% sphagnum peat moss.
Plants should be grown with consistent sub-irrigation.

Lighting:
Sarracenia prefer bright, intense sunlight to grow well.
Grower Tips:
When transplanting into the garden, plant into a container submerged in the surrounding soil. Prior to planting, drill holes in the container to allow water to drain about 1-2" above the bottom of the container. Fill the container with peat moss to help maintain soil acidity and appropriate soil moisture. Mulch the surface with pine needles to hide the edges of the subterranean container.
