Pests & Diseases:

There is typically not much pest pressure on oregano, but scout for aphids, spider mites and thrip. Maintain adequate spacing around plants and provide good air circulation to prevent powdery mildew, to which oregano is susceptible.

Potting & Timing:

This crop is easy to produce and is typically sold as a mound of colorful foliage rather than with flowers. Plugs can be planted for same season sales.

Moisture:

Slightly dry to moderate moisture levels. Oregano prefers well-drained media and slightly dry growing conditions, which will also help to prevent unwanted stretch.

Planting Level:

Plant plugs with the soil line even with the soil line of the finished container.

PGRs/Pinching:

Liners may be pinched at transplant to encourage lateral branching. Daminozide (B-Nine/Dazide) may be used to control stretch if needed, multiple applications at lower rates of 1500-2500 ppm are preferable to one, higher rate application.

Lighting:

Hight light levels recommended as this is a long day plant, with 14 hours required for flowering.
